Called into Ministry? Five Questions to Ask Yourself http://bit.ly/9iv4IR Wed, Mar 10, 2010

New Beginnings

I start my first seminary classes this Monday. Did I just say that? Am I really in seminary? If you would have told me 5 years ago that I would be going to seminary, I probably would have laughed; yet that is exactly what I am now embarking upon. When God gets a hold of your life and leads you to where He is calling you, it might surprise you where you end up.

So I started this blog to communicate this spiritual and educational journey. So how did this all start? Well, I knew that I was being called by God to go to seminary. It was either I listened to that and act on it now, or choose to not do what God tells me and just keep on keepin’ on. But, didn’t Jonah do that? In the end, he ended up right where God told him to go, right? So, I am now registered with Denver Seminary and signed up for my first 2 classes.

How did I end up choosing Denver Seminary you wonder? Well… while I can give you a spiritual answer, I will say that I have always wanted to live in Colorado (even though I have never stepped foot into the state) and figured that if I was about to make a life altering choice and move to somewhere to go to seminary, it might as well be somewhere that I wanted to live. So, I looked for seminaries in Colorado and found Denver Seminary. Yes, I did read the statement of faith and yes, I did read all about the Master of Divinity program. Heck, I even found out that a couple of the people I know here in Greece have friends who have either attended or are attending Denver Seminary and give great reviews. Finally, I did pray about this very much – not only about location but to confirm that this really was where God was leading me. He answered, and here I am.

I currently live on the island of Crete in Greece, so I also needed a school that offered some online classes. Denver Seminary does, so obviously that was a huge blessing. I’ve known all along that I would need an opportunity to take online classes, but also know that I can’t do the whole program online and get out of it what God wants me to get out of it. So, I will be taking what classes I can online, then at some point uprooting from where I currently am, quitting my job and moving to Denver to complete my seminary training. A little scary (have a wife and 2 kids), but I know that when God tells you to do something, He provides the means to do it as well. In the meantime, time to pinch those pennies!

The first two classes I’ll be taking:

You said, “When God gets a hold of your life and leads you to where He is calling you, it might surprise you where you end up.”

Oh yes and that my sweet husband is called faith. Having the confidence (and a dash of trust) that God knows what he’s doing.

I also want to say that this is a huge deal for both of us. I haven’t a real paying job since we moved overseas over six years ago. When the time does come for us to put “an egg in a shoe and beat-it” that will be a big test of faith for me personally, but for both of us really. I think we’ll be brimming with excitement when the time comes. I’ll be excited to move back to the states, excited to get away from Cretan ants, excited to start my career, excited to be moving to Colorado, excited for you to be a college kid, and excited to have grocery store options. There will be many things that I will miss, but our cheese will be moved and I know who will be doing the moving.

WOW!!! I can’t think of a better place than Denver for school growth for your whole family. Having just left there two days ago, I will tell you, I told Paul I this would be an awesome place for any family. I am thankful you still have much time on your contract for Crete.

Thanks Tina! We are very much enjoying our time here and love the family that Christ has surrounded us with; it was a very pleasant surprise! Especially after doing so much research online before coming here and coming up empty! =)

  4. You never heard of the “egg and beat-it” thing? Oh my, I find out new things about you everyday. It’s like “Make like a tree and leave (leaf).” I have more examples, if you like . . .
